When My Heart Is Overwhelmed

When you feel like you’re coming apart at the seems what do you do? When you can’t juggle all the things life has brought your way, who do you turn to for help? I don’t want to just survive my day (or my life);I want to thrive – and for that to happen I need help from the only One who can truly help. How often do we muddle along, stressed out and frazzled, instead of stopping and asking God to give us His strength?
Can I admit that sometime I forget to slow down and ask for help? Sometimes I get so caught up in everything that needs to be accomplished that it’s like I’m caught in a giant tornado. I get swept up by my stresses and “to-do’s,” swirled around in hectic circles, and tossed around. No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to free myself from the tornado.
The only peaceful place when a tornado is around is in the calm eye of the storm. That’s where I need to be. But I’m not strong enough to loose myself from the tornado’s grasp and get there. If I could only have one word to describe it, I would use the word overwhelming.
How many of us are crawling through life feeling overwhelmed? We are unable to get ourselves out of the storm and into the peaceful eye of the tornado. Thankfully there is a way. We can ask God for His strength to conquer the storm. We can stop and be still and admit to the Lord that we cannot handle life on our own and we need His help.
God will not let us down, He will not fail us, He will not forsake us: but we must ask.

Matthew 21:22 “And all things whatsoever he shall ask in prayer, believing, he shall receive.”

Deuteronomy 31:8 “And the Lord, He it is that doth go before thee: He will be with thee, He will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”

Ephesians 3:20-21 “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that workers in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”
When my heart is overwhelmed, the answer is to go to God and ask for His help. He is willing and waiting to show Himself mighty in my life if I will only ask.
